Phone & Voice Services

🔐 Our Approach to Privacy

Elder Friend is designed with a minimal-data philosophy.

Rather than collecting and protecting large amounts of sensitive information, the system is intentionally built to avoid collecting it in the first place.

  • No personal identity required to use the service

  • No intake forms or profiles

  • No need for residents to share private information

This reduces both complexity and risk.

🚫 What We Do Not Collect

Elder Friend does not collect or request:

  • Names, birthdates, or addresses

  • Medical history or health information

  • Insurance or financial details

  • Any protected health information (PHI)

If a caller attempts to share private or medical information, the system redirects the conversation away from those topics.

🛑 Zero-Retention Mode (Default)

Elder Friend does not store audio, transcripts, or conversation data in Zero-Retention Mode.

  • No call recordings

  • No transcripts

  • No conversation logs

  • No data to review, export, or manage

This mode is the standard configuration for Emotional Support and can be used across other features as well.

📊 Optional Data-Insights Mode (Planned)

A future Data-Insights Mode is planned to provide high-level, non-clinical trends only.

  • No raw transcripts

  • No per-call summaries

  • No identifiable information

This is designed to help communities understand general engagement patterns, not individual conversations.

🛡️ Non-Clinical Design

Elder Friend is a non-clinical service.

  • Not medical care

  • Not therapy or counseling

  • Not a diagnostic or monitoring tool

Because the system avoids clinical functions and data, it does not operate as a HIPAA-covered product.

⚖️ HIPAA Positioning (Important Clarification)

Elder Friend uses BAA-supported vendors and follows a HIPAA-aligned roadmap, but Elder Friend itself is not a HIPAA-covered clinical product and does not sign BAAs with facilities.

This means:

  • The system is designed with privacy in mind

  • But it is intentionally kept outside clinical data workflows

🧩 Separation of Experiences

Different features may operate with different privacy configurations:

  • Emotional Support: typically private, no retention

  • Daily Discussion / Trivia: may include recorded interactions depending on configuration

This separation allows communities to balance:

  • Privacy

  • Quality improvement

  • Operational needs

🛡️ How Conversations Stay Safe

Elder Friend is designed to prevent sensitive data from entering the conversation:

  • Redirects away from medical or personal details

  • Does not ask identifying questions

  • Maintains strictly non-clinical dialogue

This is enforced at the system level in every interaction.

🚫 No Integration with Clinical Systems

Elder Friend:

  • Does not connect to EHRs

  • Does not write to medical records

  • Does not share data with care systems

This keeps the service fully separate from regulated clinical infrastructure.

✔️ Why This Model Reduces Risk

Privacy risk is reduced by design choices, not just policy:

  • Minimal data collection

  • No stored conversations (in Zero-Retention Mode)

  • No clinical data handling

  • No identity requirements

This results in a smaller compliance surface area for communities.
